On Friday 30th August, HSPA continued its proud tradition of celebrating Wear it Purple Day.
Wear it Purple is a youth led movement that began in 2010, showing LGBTIQ+ people that they have the right to be proud of who they are. The celebration of the day at our school demonstrates that HSPA is a safe place where all young people are free to express themselves and where their identities are celebrated. The theme of the day this year was Stand Up - Stand Out.
The events on Wear it Purple Day were all organised by an enthusiastic group of students from our Stand Out Group (a group consisting of LGBTIQ+ students and allies). These students organised two successful events in our school hall, a Just Dance warm-up activity on Thursday and live performances on Friday. The bake and badge sale held on Wear it Purple Day raised $300, which has been donated to youth LGBTIQ+ organisation, Minus 18, a group chosen by the Stand Out Group to receive their fundraising money.
A big thank you to these students, whose efforts throughout the year contribute to an inclusive culture and a variety of activities held in the school, recognising and celebrating LGBTIQ+ persons and events.
