Our teachers use a variety of strategies to assess each student's work, this includes observing their work in class and looking closely at the work they produce throughout the year.
In 2024, Year 7 and 8 students are reported on 24/7 via the Learner Dashboard. Parents can see detailed information relating student achievement in course outcomes, cohort comparison, cross-curriculum progress, co-curriculum achievements and attendance.
Twice a year teachers report every student's achievements based on the outcomes in the syllabuses for each subject. We provide detailed information to students about what is expected from them during the year and how their work will be assessed. A written report using the grade scale, listed below, is sent home via Sentral parent portal near the end of Term 2 and Term 4 to give you a clear picture of your child's achievements.
ADVANCED BADGE (GRADE A): The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
MASTERING BADGE (GRADE B): The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
COMPETENT BADGE (GRADE C): The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
DEVELOPING BADGE (GRADE D): The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.
EMERGING BADGE (GRADE E): the student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills.
All students in Y3, Y5, Y7 and Y9 sit for four tests in May that are known as the National Assessment program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).
NAPLAN assesses student skills in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar. NAPLAN results help teachers meet the individual literacy and numeracy needs of students. You will receive a detailed written report of your child's achievement in the tests.
PARENT / TEACHER INTERVIEWS
During each year you will be given a formal opportunity to discuss your child's progress at a parent-teacher meeting. However, if you have any concerns don't wait for a parent-teacher meeting - make an appointment to discuss these concerns with the relevant teacher.
