Y7 visits the Great Aussie Bush Camp

In week 3 this term, we saw 167 Year 7 students head up to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens.

Everyone was very excited and the students tumbled off the bus ready to get into the activities. Despite the very hot weather, all of the students gave their first two activities an excellent go.

Students quickly demonstrated their leadership and teamwork skills as they tackled the vertical challenge, abseiling, canoeing, gully crossing and the high ropes through the trees. The first night finished off with a movie- the teachers thought we'd try something most hadn't seen before and hope that Remember the TItans inspired them all!

The second day was predicted to be over 40 degrees, but thankfully we had a beach afternoon scheduled in. Teachers and students alike enjoyed spending the afternoon swimming, splashing around with a frisbee or sitting in the shade after a couple of busy and hot activities in the morning. That night was the annual teachers v students commando game. The students put up a good fight but by the end of the game, the teachers still had a few hostages and declared themselves the winners. Everyone certainly slept well that night!

The third day saw students attempting their last two activities and a yummy lunch before loading the bags on the buses to come home.

It was an absolute pleasure to take this year 7 group on camp. Instructors and teachers alike raved about their behaviour and their attitude. Every single student attempted each activity and many pushed themselves further than they thought they could by climbing higher or going further than they had anticipated. Hopefully all students came away from camp having learnt something about themselves and making lots of new friends.

We're very proud of this group of students and look forward to seeing everything they achieve in their time at HSPA.
