Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement

More learning time is spent outside the school than in it.  You, as a parent, are your child’s first and most important teacher.  The attitude you instill in your child towards learning will influence their attitudes for the rest of their life.  Young children feel more secure, have more self-confidence and are more purposeful if they see their parent or carer taking an active interest in school life.  What is valued by the parent is valued by the child and these attitudes to learning, school and society are formed in the home where children learn by example.  Education is more than ‘schooling’. Schooling is just one small component in the development of a person.  Don’t underestimate your importance as a teacher.

Volunteer Helpers

We encourage parents, grandparents, older brothers and sisters to get involved in our school and volunteer their time as helpers both inside and outside the classroom. This could include but is not limited to special events, transportation of children to excursions, sporting events, performances, working bees, musical preparations, costume sewing and more.

Keep an eye out in the newsletter for times when you are able to support our school.

POPPAS (Parents of Primary Performing Arts Students)

The Primary HSPA parents meet once a month to discuss what is happening at the school, upcoming events and ways to support the school and the students. This is held on the first Monday of each month during school terms at 6pm and all parents and carers are welcome.

Parent & Citizen Association (P&C)

The HSPA P&C Association meet twice a term on Monday evenings in Week 2 and 8 of each term at 7pm and all Primary and Secondary parents and carers are welcome.

HSPA Canteen

The P & C Association oversees the canteen. The aim of the canteen is to provide the best service possible for students at a reasonable price.  To do this it is necessary to seek the aid of voluntary helpers to assist in serving at the canteen under the direction of a paid supervisor.

If you are able to volunteer in the canteen, please access the volunteer form via the website.

The money obtained from the canteen profits will be utilised by the P&C to develop the facilities at the school for the benefit of all students.

Homework

Reading each night and practicing or rehearsing their performing arts is strongly encouraged and forms a great routine of lifelong learning. The class teacher may set additional tasks to revise or reinforce work being done in the classroom or complete tasks not finished during the day. Time taken to complete this homework will vary, so please discuss any homework questions with your child’s teacher. Information regarding this is available at the parent teacher information night held early in Term 1.
