Using Canvas to Support Student Learning
Canvas is the HSPA learning management system. This comprehensive eLearning environment provides students with a consistent online learning experience. Advantages include easy access to curriculum resources, assessment tasks and feedback. Students can participate in collaborative, engaging, multimedia based learning experiences. Canvas integrates seamlessly with the Office 365 suite meaning students can store their work in the cloud and submit to Canvas. Canvas makes management of student learning requirements much easier, providing online personalised calendars, learning agendas and To Do lists.
Canvas is also the preferred learning management system for many of the world's top universities. HSPA students will enter tertiary education with an excellent understanding of the Canvas learning environment, providing a smooth transition to university-style education.
Parents have access to HSPA Canvas in the role of 'Observer'. This provides outstanding transparency for all members of the student's learning team. Parents can see, in real time, teacher's feedback to students, marks for online assignments and the work students are completing in each course as well as all upcoming learning requirements for all subjects.
The following resources will assist parents to use Canvas when supporting student learning.

Parents can now access Canvas via the Sentral Parent Portal - click the link under Applications or the Canvas Parent Access link on the Technology Access page of this site. The first time you access you need to click forgot password as we cannot sync the data for security reasons.
- Connect your child in Sentral Parent Portal using the family key sent to you - search for Access Key in your emails. See tips at bottom of this page if you cant find the family key.
- Sentral will sync with Canvas overnight - you will need to wait until the next day to proceed further.
- Login to Canvas from within the Sentral Parent Portal or Parent Access link on this site - please don't login using the Teacher/Student Canvas Access button on the school website, this only works for staff and students.
- The first time you go to Canvas click on forgot password as we legally can't sync passwords.
- You will be sent an email from Canvas, please follow the directions in this email.
- When you login to Canvas do not use the Microsoft Login button, this is only for staff and students.
Our technology team are contactable via email address above - please do not telephone the school with technology issues, as it is more than likely that we are on class and unavailable.

If you have used the guides above and cannot gain access, please use the following form to let us know you are having issues. You will be required to sign in as a student using your school email address (student.name@education.nsw.gov.au)
