Chess Teams

Chess is a very popular pursuit at HSPA, we have about 40 active players and a strong history of tournament success.

Chess is a great game of strategy and delivers many tangible benefits to our students, including:

  • improves problem-solving skills
  • improves spatial skills
  • improves memory capacity
  • exercises both sides of the brain
  • increases creativity
  • increases concentration
  • teaches planning and foresight

At the entry level we have a range of school based competitions for both Primary and Secondary students, these cater for different age groups and genders.

From our pool of players we choose teams to represent us in local and regional Chess tournaments. These tournaments include:

  • the NSW Chess Challenge
  • Primary One Day Teams
  • Secondary Country Teams Competition
  • NSW Girls Teams Chess Competition
  • State and National titles

In 2014 we had a very stong senior team and won the NSW State Title - a phenomenal effort!

We also have a Tactile Chess Board to ensure that Chess and it’s many benefits are available to students with impaired vision.

The Chess coordinator is Mr Bonjekovic, see him to kickstart your chess adventure!
