At HSPA we strive to improve student outcomes in all areas. 'Focus on Reading' is just one whole school practice we use to improve reading and comprehension standards in students from Years 3-12. Staff at HSPA have been trained in the Focus on Reading strategies. You may have heard your child refer to the 'Super 6'. These 6 strategies target reading comprehension by helping students to not only read a text, but to understand and make meaning of it.
Do you find your child can read a text but not understand what they have read? Can they read an exam question but not really understand what is being asked of them? Being able to employ the Super 6 Strategies will help them to unlock that stumbling block.
If you would like to understand these strategies and be able to help your child at home to improve their reading comprehension and consequent results, we want to work with you to make this happen.
HSPA will be running Parent Information/Workshop Sessions in Term 2 where we will unpack these simple strategies and show you how you can assist your child at home. Sessions are free and morning/afternoon tea will be provided. These sessions are open to parents of both Primary and Secondary students.
Session 1: Wednesday 1st May (Week 1, Term 2) at 10:30am in The Hub (staff common room).
Session 2: Wednesday 1st May (Week 1, Term 2) at 5:30pm in The Hub (staff common room).
