Sharp Short Theatre

Congratulations to our talented and hardworking Yr 11 Drama Ensemble who continued HSPA's success in Riverside Theatre's Sharp Short Theatre Competition last Friday night, winning 3 of the 5 major awards. This is the 5th consecutive year we have had at least 2 plays in the Final and won 3 or more of the major  awards. We have won Best Script and Best Overall Production in 4 of the past 5 years.

This year Cemetery For Trees written/directed by Jessica Nader, starring Jess and Hugo Hay won Best Script and Best Overall Production and Lily Dougherty won best Female Performer for her role as the mother in woMAN, written/directed by Larissa Barwell, starring Lily, James Hilton, Sofie Dennis and Alice Hollott.

​As well as a trophy the students won some excellent prizes. 

The prizes for Best Script were

A double pass to a Riverside show of their choice - including an invitation to the NTofP Playwrights of Parramatta Group discussion afterwards

choice of 3 shows- Comedy of Errors, The Sapphires, To Be Honest

AND

A Script Development Workshop with ATYP’s resident Dramaturg

AND

A Package of Australian Plays from Currency Press

The prizes for Best production were: 

A double pass (per participant) to a Riverside show of your choice

AND

A chance to perform your piece before a performance of ATYPs April Aardvark or Bathory Begins.

The Prizes for Best Female Performer were:

2-hour acting masterclass with Sydney Theatre Company

AND

A Holiday workshop of your choice at ATYP

AND

One free ticket to a show through Playwave

AND

A Double Pass to Fangirls at Belvoir

The entire ensemble have been an absolute pleasure to work with and their commitment, effort and talent have all been exceptional.

You will also have the opportunity to see all 4 plays entered in Sharp Short in our Hunter Theatre on Friday 2nd August (Week 2 next Term).
