Dear Parents/Caregivers

Over the last two days we have met with students in Years 7 to 12 to discuss managing school, hygiene and what would happen with their learning in the event of a school shutdown.

We have shared with them our plans about online learning. Our staff is working very hard in this space so we can ensure continuity of learning for our students.

In the event of a school shutdown, HSPA will deliver curriculum through our Learning Management System, CANVAS.

Students will follow their regular timetabled classes. Class teachers will be online at this time to direct learning and answer questions through CANVAS discussions.

For example, if it is Monday Week A, period 1, and your child has a Drama class, they will log into CANVAS at 8.59 and their teacher will be online along with the rest of the class.

Students will follow their timetabled classes for the whole day and will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback from their teachers.

Recess and lunch breaks will be at the usual time.

Staff are exploring the video conferencing options in CANVAS at present and will sometimes use these to deliver certain lessons.

As we develop more detail around this system, we will share our processes with you.

It is important that your child has completed the technology access survey currently on the All Students page on CANVAS. This will assist us greatly with our planning. Please check with your child that they have completed this.

If you are also the parent of a primary school student at HSPA, we will send information about online curriculum delivery for years 3-6 in the next two days.

This link will take you to the Department’s advice around COVID19. It is regularly updated.
